OPUS 20 is the only British string ensemble specialising in the performance of 20th and 21st century music. Founded by its principle players and its conductor, Scott Stroman, in1985, it has been universally praised for the quality, accuracy, and passion of its performances. In addition to performing masterpieces of the 20th century by Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Berg, Webern, Bartok, Shostakovich, Lutoslawski, Britten, Maw, Tippett, Takemitsu and others, it has premiered dozens of new works and collaborated with numerous interesting composers and soloists. It has toured in North and South America, been annual resident ensemble at the Dartington International Summer School and Highbury Festival, produced several CD recordings, and broadcast on BBC radio and television.

OPUS 20 give enlightening and entertaining educational and illustrated concerts, and have lead many workshops with composers, youth orchestras, and festivals on topics ranging from performance techniques to composition and improvisation. Their current “Out of Africa” project is designed for singers and players of all levels.
